Ko tō tūranga – your role

As a Network Planning Engineer, you will play a vital role in Counties Energy’s Network Development functions including Network Planning, Protection, Future Technologies, and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs).

Your key responsibilities include preparing load forecasts, reviewing network constraints, undertaking connection assessments, initiating network augmentation projects, reviewing power quality violations and contributing to the development of the Asset Management Plan.

As a thought leader in our business, you’ll provide expertise on the changing energy sector, anticipating its impact on Counties Energy. Additionally, you’ll develop and implement strategies to integrate DERs effectively, analyse their impact on network performance, and conduct assessments for proposed DER Projects.

Ōu pūkenga - What will you bring?

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering with distribution network or power systems specialty.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the energy or infrastructure sector;
  • Experience with power systems analysis software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory preferred;
  • Teachable attitude, willingness to learn and motivation for new challenges;
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative to learn on their own.
  • Proactive approach to learning new technologies, systems, and tools.
  • Professional engineering registration or demonstration of good progress towards such registration highly regarded;
  • Calm, professional temperament with ability to cope in pressured environments, maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and staff during challenging times;
  • Resilient and tenacious; successfully adapts to changing demands and conditions and looks for opportunities to improve the current state;
  • Numerate and analytical; highly organised and methodical, makes decisions based on facts and analysis;
  • Able to work autonomously and being self-driven to produce good quality outcomes in a timely manner;
  • Exceptional attention to detail;
  • A good knowledge of applicable legislation and industry guidelines.

  • Remuneration for this position is $115,000 to $145,000 gross per annum and is dependent on current skills and experience you bring to the role,
  • This role is permanent full time working a minimum of 40 hours per week and maximum of 50 hours per week,

  • Increased company KiwiSaver Contribution to 4%,
  • A paid ‘Me Day’ for you, to use as you choose and,
  • An extra five days of sick leave.
